Yuletide 2023 Letter
Oct. 18th, 2023 04:14 amDear Yuletide Writer, Thank you so much for writing something for me! This is my third Yuletide, and last year was a blast, so I am excited to go onto the next! I hope my prompts will be interesting to you! Likes: I love stories with DNWs: Voluntary, self-inflicted amputation, miscarriages, anal sex, character bashing, non-con (I find dub-con to be a fascinating way to explore both characters, but non-con is too far for me) and modern aus. My promo posts linked below contain a lot of detail about the canons if you're unfamiliar with them, so definitely give them a read if that is so! I've got in-depth gushing and links to where you can find these. Fandom: The Warrender Saga - Mary Burchell Characters Requested: Any (Gail Rostall, Oliver Bannister, Kate Grayson | Katherine Gray, Carlo Etlinger Fandom Promo Post: https://yuletide.dreamwidth.org/303660.html?thread=4768812#cmt4768812 Suddenly they were all three talking together and, with Oliver playing on the piano and Tom striking out words and substituting others on his battered piece of paper, they then and there worked out the song which was to capture all London in less than a year’s time. It was late when Oliver took her home, and they walked hand in hand through the cool autumn night, while the stars seemed to lean out of heaven. And inevitably he kissed her goodnight when he left her. Characters Requested: El Gallo (The Fantasticks), Luisa (The Fantasticks) Fandom Promo Post: https://yuletide.dreamwidth.org/303660.html?thread=4588332#cmt4588332 Prompts: What I find most fascinating about the show is Luisa and El Gallo's relationship. El Gallo is both the narrator and the villain -- Luisa is young and "incurably insane," in the way young people are, and is fascinated by bandits and the romance that they present. And El Gallo's job is to be the villain that hurts her, and forces her to grow up -- only, only that becomes increasingly distasteful to him as he knows her. She breaks through the mask of the villain to what he is underneath. He is not bad, merely playing a role -- but that role begins to hurt him as well as her. And he kisses her upon the eyes, and tells her he will return, and the story must be played out, and the girl must be left, and the villain must hurt her, but that does not mean it does not hurt him too. I want anything that involves them interacting more. I think their dynamic is just so utterly compelling, and anything that involves them will interest me. Some vague ideas I have include El Gallo remembering Luisa as he wanders through other stories. Something about her spoke past the villain facade, past the narrator role, all the way through to the human heart of him. That would leave a mark. Especially since he has her mother’s necklace. I also like the idea of El Gallo sticking around for a while, while Matt wanders, and he and Luisa striking up a romance/friendship. I’d love for the lines between the story and reality to blur a bit, as El Gallo puts the story on hold in order to be with Luisa longer. Much angst could be gleaned from this prompt, I suspect. XD I’d also love to see them get to wander the world, have a “lovely, real romance,” as they say in Round and Round. Escape the narrative, together! Also anything exploring the vibes of Round and Round could be so fun. The show really has big Labyrinth vibes there, and I think that’s horribly intriguing. Fandom: Tea and Sympathy - Anderson Characters Requested: Tom Lee (Tea and Sympathy - Anderson), Laura Reynolds Fandom Promo Post: https://yuletide.dreamwidth.org/303660.html?thread=4632108#cmt4632108 Prompts: I really want to see them interact again post-canon!! I think their relationship could develop into something deeper outside of the school environment -- maybe if they meet again after Tom is done with college? What does Laura do after her divorce? How would they connect after years apart? I really think they could make it -- they have such chemistry, and I'd love to see them more. Also the Candida references in the original play -- if you find a way to keep that going, I would love that. Prompts: I'd really love to see endgame Gail/Oliver or Kate/Carlo!! I think Gail and Oliver have such chemistry, and I adore their banter; I'd really love to see them work together more? I'd love to see Gail make the switch to musical theater -- musical theater is my first love, and I think she could really shine there. I'd love to see Oliver perhaps work on a book musical too, not just a revue? I can see him getting into more experimental musicals as well.
They're just darling, and I'd love to see them interact more.
For Kate/Carlo, I'm very interested in her actually going on that tour with him!!! I really do think both of them could grow so much; both as artists and human beings. They're both so young and passionate, but Kate is willing to work for her goals, and I think she could teach Carlo to be industrious too. The strange, sexual tension between them is so intriguing, and rare for Burchell -- if you want to explore that as well, I shall not mind. :PI also think something even just post-canon could be interesting -- if you have Kate realize what an ass Van is, I will be very happy. XD
He laughed and, getting up from his chair, came to stand beside her at the piano. For her part, Kate was suddenly strangely excited and very faintly scared, though she was not sure why. She picked out a note or two on the piano and said, ‘I’m just trying to remember how it goes——’ ‘Take it from here.’ He leaned across her so that he was unexpectedly close, and sketched a phrase or two. ‘Yes, I’ve got it!’ She began to play, and all at once that warm, seductive baritone voice was addressing her personally in a melody which had captured the world long before she was born. Good musical discipline made her join in accurately at the right point. But then something she had never before experienced warmed and coloured her voice with a sort of sensuous excitement that was totally alien to Kate Grayson, and entirely in keeping with the infatuated Nedda. She had to respond, she had to let Silvio know that she loved him and, casting all her humdrum life aside, would go with him. The beautifully blended voices soared to a triumphant peak and came to a stop. And at that point Carlo picked her right up in his arms and kissed her several times—laughing, breathless and in some curious way exultant. ‘You see?’ he said, still holding her close against him. ‘That’s how it should be done! You’re learning, my little Kate—you’re learning!’ And, as she disentangled herself from his embrace, she was nearly sure that he was referring to something other than just singing.
Fandom: The Fantasticks - Schmidt/Jones
Alternatively, if you want to write what happened immediately after "Years from now, when you speak of this, and you will, be kind," I would most certainly not be opposed to that at all. I think them sleeping together would be so achingly tender and satisfying after so much build up.
Prompts: I would love to see anything focused on these characters! Really, go crazy! I'd love to see Rebecca and Nathan fixing their marriage (and Nathan pulling his head out his ass.) Or just Nathan angst as he loses his remaining family because of his own faults. I'd love to see David growing up and into himself (how many grifts could he pull in the future?) I'd love to see Rebecca and Saul figure out a relationship post-canon -- how do they exist in this strange new place of their relationship together? Explorations of their world and how they navigate through it could be so cool too. I'd love see more of the original political themes of the original work intact too. I love all of the characters I requested so much -- they fascinate me. Anything you'd pick for them, I'd be so happy with!
